Unless space is an issue when on vacation (you will get twice as much recording at 28mbps than with the 50 mpbps of XAVCs) I would recommend using the new codec whenever possible. XAVCs files are more detailed and control highlights better.

You may not notice as much detail in the youtube file.but take my word for it. I save all my home movies in this format and wanted to see if the extra detail that is captured using the XAVCs codec would show up in the re-rendered files.
#Xavc s vs avchd vs mp4 mp4
In this video comparison I have taken the original video files and re-rendered them as a 28mbps mp4 file. Perhaps the rudimentary difference between AVCHD and MP4 files is the container format, though both recording video codec as MPEG-4 AVC/H.264. While AVCHD uses MPEG-2 transport stream (also called MTS) wrapper format. I would recommend using the new codec to do so. This format is found in the popular Sony A7s camera. Of course you can work around the blown highlights by not shooting in Auto, but sometimes you just want to grab your camera and shoot a quick kid video or whatever. I noticed quite a bit more detail in the XAVCS Shots as well as better highlight handling (less blown areas). mp4 file extension saved with the PMB software. m2ts extension saved with the Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software, whereas MP4-formatted video uses. The whole family can easily enjoy high definition video connecting a AVCHD-compatible camera to a high definition TV or compatible reproduction device with AVCHD. Allows high definition vivids to be appreciated all over the family.
#Xavc s vs avchd vs mp4 how to
Generally, the AVCHD-formatted video uses. How to convert avchd to mp4 on sony camera.

I did this comparison because I cannot find any online resource comparing the two directly. Perhaps the rudimentary difference between AVCHD and MP4 files is the container format, though both recording video codec as MPEG-4 AVC/H.264. You can see the side by side comparison here. This new codec shows up on the AX100 as well as the Rx100 Mark 3. I used the new Sony CX900 camcorder for this test. I finally got around to posting a direct comparison of the AVCHD Codec vs the new Sony XAVCS codec.
